January 8, 2008 My paintings were initially emotion about my kids. The pains and penalties of having them leave home and venture into adulthood without me. The process of trying to let go and allow their journeys’ to be truly their own. It is not my job to see they turn out the way ‘I think they should’. It’s for me to be able to sit and console or consult during their pain, but not to take it on as my own. In looking back at my life, the most difficult steps I took were developed during a period of misery. My progress has always been driven from pain. I want to be healthy, and free from burden. My paintings derive from within. I reach for a color and make a mark, and then that color talks to me and asks for another. I scrape shapes and drive my energy onto the canvas. My education and profession is Movement and Exercise Physiology. My motion is incorporated into shape until I feel relief. Each tube of paint I choose eggs me on and asks to be squeezed. I fall in love with color and placement of every mark, even the ones that aren’t so pretty. I can’t help it. I don’t paint my paintings - they paint themselves. |
